HTC U12 Plus is now available for pre-order, this is coming after weeks of countless leaks and renders. The flagship device was quietly introduced by HTC yesterday and the Pre-order starts today in Europe and US. It’ll be available globally in the coming weeks.
Just like most 2018 high-end flagship, it houses the Snapdragon 845 flagship chipset with octa-core processor. The trending dual rear camera has found its way to HTC U series, as it debuted at number 2 on DxOMark. It boasts of 6GB of RAM, Android 8.0 Oreo and IP68 certifications. Lets find out more.
Design
The U12 Plus comes in the same body as the U11 Plus in terms of certifications. It’s IP68 certified offering dust and water resistant and providing durability. The device sports an aluminium alloy overall unibody that’s covered exquisitely in glass. This makes the device reflects light beautifully, it also has Pressure-sensitive buttons which enables Edge Sense squeeze gestures.
At the rear, the dual shooters are in unique position here, they are vertical at the top middle. The dual-LED flash comes underneath and then there’s the fingerprint scanner, before the HTC logo. It measures 8.7mm in thickness and weighs 188g, this is quite bulky for a flagship. It’s available in Translucent Blue, Ceramic Black, Flame Red and other exclusive colors.
Display
No notch here for obvious reasons, it seems HTC isn’t feeling the whole notch trend yet. When you get the U12 Plus, the screen dishes out the usual 18:9 aspect ratio screen with first generation bezel-less display. No narrow bezels in sight as usual, the top and bottom bezel are super minimal as well.
The 6-inch QHD Super LCD6 capacitive touchscreen displays some of the most immersive visuals ever on mobile. It boasts of 1440 x 2880 pixels in resolution and 537 pixel per inch density for sharp visuals. It has DCI-P3 & HDR10 compliant, stretches up to 80.3% screen-to-body ratio with a Corning Gorilla Glass 5 on top.
Hardware and Software
The brain behind the device is the powerful Snapdragon 845 chip from Qualcomm with an Octa-Core processor and 64-bit CPU architecture. The 8-Cores of processor here runs at a blazing pace of 2.8GHz with 10nm process technology. In the graphics department, the Adreno 630 delivers.
There’s only one version in terms of RAM, which is the 6GB version, it has a memory speed of up to 2GHz as well. In terms of storage, there’s a standard version with 128GB space and a cheaper variant with 64GB. If you can let go of the SIM slot 2, then you can upgrade up to 400GB. It runs on Android 8.0 Oreo, planned upgrade to Android 9.0 P with HTC Sense UI.
Camera
Turning over to the back, the dual 12MP + 16MP cameras captures stunning images. The device debuted just below Huawei’s P20 Pro in terms of overall camera quality, according to DXO Mark. The first 12MP shooter to the left has f/1.8 aperture, 1.4µm pixel size and Dual Pixel PDAF. While the 16MP shooter has f/2.6 aperture and 1.0µm pixel size.
Features on the camera includes phase detection & laser autofocus, OIS, gyro-EIS, 2x optical zoom, dual-LED dual-tone flash. There’s also Geo-tagging, simultaneous 4K video and 8MP image recording, touch focus, face and smile detection, HDR, Panorama. You can shoot 4K videos of [email protected] and [email protected]/60/240fps with HDR and 24-bit/96kHz stereo sound rec. For selfies, there’s an 8MP selfie camera with f/2.0 aperture and 1.12µm pixel size as well.
Battery
Powering the HTC U12 Plus is a 3500mAh non-removable Li-Ion battery with fast charging technology. With the fast charging feature, charging the battery from 0% to 100% shouldn’t take up to 1.5 hours.
