Paramount confirmed that a sequel to the smash-hit film A Quiet Place is already in development. The PG-13 horror film has been universally praised by critics and proven to have impressive legs at the box office.
So while it’s not entirely unexpected, this is very welcome news for those that have fallen under the spell of the near-silent take on the genre, as the studio announced A Quiet Place 2.
Directed by John Krasinski and starring both himself and his wife Emily Blunt, A Quiet Place tells the story of an Earth decimated by near-invulnerable eyeless creatures that react to sound and kill any living being they encounter. Krasinski and Blunt play the parents of a family desperately trying to keep themselves and their children alive in this post-apocalyptic world.
The film has earned much praise for its narrative that includes little dialogue, but still crams in plenty of tension-filled sequences and jump-scares. Since it was released in theaters at the beginning of April, it has already earned over $213M worldwide, and has yet to open in some lucrative territories like China. With a production budget of only $17M, it’s easy to understand why Paramount are so keen to announce a follow-up.

“We’re thrilled to say that we’re already working on the sequel to ‘A Quiet Place,’”
There were no further insights to the project however. At the moment it remains unknown as to whether Krasinski will return to direct or co-write again, or if any of the original cast will feature in the sequel. And there’s certainly no information as to a production start date or release.
After leaving the top-spot of the film charts when Rampage was released, A Quiet Place reclaimed it again during the past weekend. This success makes the possibility of a franchise a huge deal for Paramount.
While the original film operates perfectly well as a standalone piece, the whole scenario lends itself easily to further stories in this reality. Krasinski himself confirmed that the creatures are alien in origin, and screenwriters Bryan Woods and Scott Beck have also stated that they had plenty of ideas for a follow-up.
We look forward to hearing further details, and hopefully A Quiet Place 2 will prove to be another thrilling film that will keep audiences from talking or eating during the screening.
